Outline and Purpose of the Course Many commentaries were written to the Mulamadhyamaka of Nagarjuna by various authors from different points of view. Accordingly, Madhyamaka had developed in many ways. In this seminar, our objective will be to take up some chapters from the Prasannapada by Candrakirti, extant also in Sanskrit, together with other related commentaries to the Mulamadhyamaka and to consider the diverse arguments presented in this work to obtain a better understanding of middle Indian Madhyamaka in 6/7 century.
Course Goals To consider the diverse arguments seen in the Prasannapada to get a better understanding of the ideology of the time and middle Indian Madhyamaka.
Schedule and Contents Continuing on the first semester, up to session 14 we will intensively read the Prasannapada and explain and discuss related issues. If necessary, there will be an introduction to the writer, the work, and the background in the first class session. In session 15, the professor will give feedback.

Course Requirements Students will need basic reading comprehension skills for Sanskrit and Tibetan texts. It is preferable to take this course as well as the first semester seminar.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students are expected to prepare adequately to attend each class session, and bring with them a full awareness of the issues related to the topics of the course.
