Outline and Purpose of the Course The First World War was the foundational moment of the modern world. A vital question to be inquired next is: what kind of modern world emerged out of ashes brought about by the First World War? In tackling the question, the thoroughgoing reconsideration of the Second World War, another global convulsion within twenty years since the end of the first, is nothing but indispensable. This lecture attempts to portray a fresh and updated overall picture of this traumatic catastrophe.
Course Goals To grasp the Second World War, which was highly complex, in its totality and understand its long shadow cast upon the world since the war.

(2) How was the Second World War brought about? (Weeks 4-5)
(3) How was the Second World War waged?①Sept.1939-Dec.1941 (Weeks 6-8)
(4) How was the Second World War waged?②Dec.1941-Feb.1943 (Weeks 9-11)
(5) How was the Second World War waged?③Feb.1943-Aug.1945 (Weeks 12-14)

Evaluation Methods and Policy Reports to be written at the end of the term are evaluated.
