Outline and Purpose of the Course This course provides opportunities for graduate students to individually present on (1) establishing his/her research topic, (2) review of previous research, (3) theoretical framework, and (4) empirical research on literature and historical materials. Students are expected to make his/her presentation clear-cut while at the same time substantiated with their own research on historical materials. Presentation of his/her own research topis as well as following discussions should provide opportunities for both presenters and other participants to broaden their historical perspectives and refine their research activities.
Course Goals For students in master programs, the goal is to complete his/her master thesis. For those in doctoral programs, the goal is to prepare an academic papers leading to a doctoral thesis.
In both cases, students are expected to accomplish research works that can be published on academic journals.
Schedule and Contents In each meeting, one student (or two in some cases) is assigned to give presentation on his/her research activities including (1) the significance of research topics, (2) existing studies or state of the art, (3) theoretical framework, and (4) the progress of his/her own empirical research. Discussions follow the presentation in which participants including faculty members will give comments that should help refine research activities on the part of the presenter.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Students will be comprehensively evaluated based on participation and presentation.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) For graduate students, every day is a day to work on their research. This seminar is a place to report the status of his/her research activities.
