Outline and Purpose of the Course The contents of this graduate course will be customized around the needs and research stage of the research student. Main research topics covered will be those concerning territorial politics: decentralization, local autonomy, local democratic institutions and practices, intergovernmental relations, multilevel electoral and governmental dynamics, as well as origin and theories of local government.
Course Goals The goals of this graduate course will be customized around the needs and research stage of the research student. But each should acquire substantial and theoretical knowledge concerning an area of territorial politics in which they have shown interest. These will be determined at the begining of the term after discussion with students.
Schedule and Contents Readings and assignments for this graduate course will be customized around the needs and research stage of the research student. Students will be expected to read and discuss at least one academic article/chapter per week on a particular theme relating to territorial politics.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Grades (pass/fail) will be assigned based on demonstrating comprehension and application of theories around territorial politics.
