Outline and Purpose of the Course Art is contained in all cultures and is substantial to all human beings. Art takes many forms and is deeply involved in the identity of all cultures. Art has no direct benefit, but it is essential for the functioning of society. The results of learning art can be used in all fields, and in that sense, it enriches our lives. Art needs to go through many processes before it finally takes shape. It starts with learning the images created by other artists and trying to create one’s own art based on them. The process itself is important for art, regardless of the objects and media used for expression. The process includes material selection, generation method, image prototype, etc., and it is necessary to reflect the artist's intention in each of them. Through such a process, art shapes the tradition and history of creativity. Art exists in the history of art for thousands of years. Existing art is built on the latest technology at the time it was created. In this class, you will learn the relationship between technology and expression, become sensitive to the ongoing communication of people, learn the current expression techniques, and combine them to create the art that the times demand.
Course Goals Basic study on "art & technology." You will learn Japanese culture through digital art production.
Schedule and Contents Art expresses the truth of a person. By focusing on Japanese culture and art, I ask you to create art that stimulates people's imagination at the global level, not art that only Japanese can understand. Every image has its background and objects to use. This is extremely important because our brain captures images in this way. With this as a starting point, you will be asked to create video art, through which you will learn to transform your emotions and share them with others. At that time, have them understand and use the following characteristics of Japanese culture.
1. Japanese sensitivity that prefers simplicity and tranquility (wabi-sabi)
2. Relationship between Japanese and Asian culture
3. A unique religion called “Shinbutsu Shugo (syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism)”
4. Japan's unique language system found in Haiku, Tanka, etc.
5. Japanese design (pattern, color, shape, Noh, Kabuki)
6. To gain a deep understanding of Japanese sensibility and culture through conversations with computers
