Outline and Purpose of the Course In this course, through fieldwork on the coexistence of humans and ecosystems, students will deepen their understanding of the issues facing our society and local communities as well as the ways in which humans and nature interact. The goal of this course is to acquire a broad perspective as a leader. In order to achieve this goal, students participate in fieldwork conducted at the Ashiu Research Forest, Kyoto University and Sasari village.
Course Goals 1) To think about how people coexist with nature
2) To learn the problems facing our society and local community
3) To acquire a broad perspective as a leader
Schedule and Contents 1) Preliminary study (lectures, group presentation)
2) Fieldwork (3 days 2 nights in August)
3) Presentation of learning outcomes and submission of report

Fieldword will be conducted at the Kyoto University Ashi Research Forest (Ashio, Miyama-cho, Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture) and Sasari village. (The preliminary study and the fieldwork might be conducted online due to COVID-19.)
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on the submitted paper and the oral presentation.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Service Learning A is a compulsory subject for the 1st-year students. Please be sure to attend all the sessions.
