Outline and Purpose of the Course The goal of this course is to introduce students to the different aspects, methodological and applied, that form the field of Intelligence Science and Technology. Students following this course will be given opportunities that may include: hear about the latest research carried out by members in other laboratories in the department; attend lectures provided by a lecturer from a different research institute or in the industry; carry out an internship within the industry or in another research institute. This course is intended for students of the IST department, but may accept, if conditions allow for it, students coming from outside the department.
Course Goals The aim is to help students acquire knowledge and research skills in their own areas of specialization, while at the same time develop deeper insights into the many fields that constitute Informatics.
Schedule and Contents (1) Off-campus internship (2nd semester): Participate in an internship program in a company or any other research organization.
・ The term of engagement must be at least 10 working days and 60 hours in total for a company, and a report on the outcomes must be submitted afterwards. Grades will be awarded based on the submitted report and the original copy of a certification of the internship issued and signed by the host organization.
(2) Special lectures on advanced technology (2nd semester): Attend around six lectures by invited speakers from industry and around two lectures about technical writing/presentation, and submit reports about these
lectures. Grades will be awarded based on these reports. If a report is not submitted, the score of the corresponding lecture is regarded as zero. The final score is calculated by the average of all the lectures' scores.
(3) IST Practice Classes (2nd semester): Participate in practice classes held by a lab in the IST department every week (about 3 hours a week).
・ This course is provided in English for international course students. Grades will be awarded by the faculty member of the lab of the week. The final score is calculated by the average of all the classes' scores.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Credits will be awarded to students who fulfill one of three options "Off-campus internship", "Special lectures on advanced technology" or "IST Practice Classes".
