Outline and Purpose of the Course This course introduces social issues of the impact of information technology to society: information policy, information and law, information and economics, information ethics, information and education. Students will learn the social aspects of information technology from multi-disciplinary viewpoints: the history and trends of information technology, problematic issues of information society, social revolution brought by information technology, privacy and security, policies on information, intellectual properties, logic and responsibilities of IT experts.
Course Goals Students will acquire knowledge about basic aspects of information and its relation to as well as impact on society. These include topics related to information policy, information and legal systems, information and economics, information ethics, information and education, history and trends of information technology, social revolution by information technology, information privacy and security, intellectual property rights, and information ethics.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be conducted based on:
- Group discussions and individual presentations in class (40%)
- Essays of specified topics (60%)

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students will be required to review the lecture slides after each class, and prepare necessary materials for group discussions and individual presentations as well.
