Outline and Purpose of the Course |
Reading literature in French. In the second half of the year, we will focus on Laurent Jenny’s The Demise of Interiority. |
Course Goals |
To improve students' ability to read French and analyze literary works, which is necessary for future study. |
Schedule and Contents |
Read Laurent Jenny's The Demise of Interiority. Students will read the introduction and first chapter sections on symbolism, thought, and expression. In principle, they will translate word for word as they go, but in certain sections, graduate students will present summaries. Works cited in the text will be presented by students individually, but important works, in particular, will be read by all students. |

Evaluation based on participation (translation of the student’s assigned section and presentation content). |
