Outline and Purpose of the Course This course is designed to provide an introduction to key concepts and research in the field of computer assisted language learning (CALL).
Course Goals The classes will focus on providing an overview of the technological, theoretical and pedagogical issues raised by the application of computer technology in language education.
Schedule and Contents The classes will focus on providing an overview of the technological, theoretical and pedagogical issues raised by the application of computer technology in language education. In this context, areas such as pedagogy, technology and second language acquisition theory will also be investigated with the aim of providing students with a through understanding of the impact of computer technologies on second language learning and teaching. Moreover, on completion of this course students will be able to effectively apply new knowledge regarding CALL in their teaching.
Evaluation Methods and Policy This course has three requirements, regular attendance, completion of bi-weekly presentations or tasks by course members and a written report (5,000 words) due by the end of the semester focusing on an aspect of CALL. Examples of suitable topics include:

evaluation of a CALL software package
critical review of a CALL web site
critical review of a CALL article or book
creation of and rationale for a CALL task

Assessment will be based on the above factors.
