Outline and Purpose of the Course The main objective of the lectures is to understand the relationships between our health/diseases and environmental factors/pollutions both at local and global levels, which provides the fundamental basis for the sustainability of the planet Earth and human beings.

本講義の主目的は、地球および地域において、環境要因・汚染と健康、疾患の関係を理解し、持続可能な地球と人類の礎とすることにある。
Course Goals As the first step for the understanding of the relationships between our health/diseases and environmental factors/pollutions, the students learn about environmental epidemiology, environmental toxicology, and the health effects of metals and chemicals, which enables applications to the health effects of a variety of environmental factors/pollutions.

環境と健康、疾患の関係を理解するための第一歩として、環境疫学、環境毒性学、金属や化学物質の健康影響の基礎知識を習得する。これにより、種々の環境要因・汚染の健康影響について、応用することを可能とする。
Schedule and Contents The order of lectures will be announced at the first class.
Environmental epidemiology (1)
Students will learn the basic concepts of epidemiology (Causation, Measures of health outcomes, Exposure, Measures of effect)
Environmental epidemiology (2)
Students will learn the basic concepts of epidemiology (Study design, Confounding, Bias)
Environmental epidemiology (3)
Student will learn how to apply epidemiological approaches to examine the association of an environmental factor with health outcomes in a case study
Environmental toxicology(1)
The students learn about the fundamentals of toxicology.
Environmental toxicology(2)
The students learn about the fundamentals of risk assessment.
Health effects of metals
The students learn about the health effects of some representative metals.
Health effects of chemicals
The students learn about the health effects of some representative chemicals.
