| Outline and Purpose of the Course |
地域の持続可能な発展の前提となる適切な地域資源利用・地域環境管理のあり方・方法等について土地利用計画を中心に学ぶ。地域計画に関する理念、体系、制度などの地域計画基礎論を講述する。また、地域資源管理について具体的事例を交えて講述する。最後に、世界各地の開発途上にある地域の調査研究事例に基づき、真に持続的な地域発展をもたらすにはどのように地域資源利用・地域環境管理を行えばよいかについて講述する。 This course is designed to review sustainable rural development alternatives and strategies while introducing students to appropriate usage and management of resources and environments at local level focusing on land use planning. Key concepts, systems and institutions in regional planning are discussed. Planning and management of resources are reviewed while introducing students to the methods and procedures for sustainable regional resource management. Part of the course will explicitly deal with integrated rural development in developing countries with appropriate comprehensive environmental management at local level. |

| Course Goals |
地域の持続可能な発展を目標とする適切な地域資源利用・地域環境管理のあり方・方法についての理念、体系、制度などについての基本的な知見を修得する。開発途上の地域におけるそれらの状況や改善の取組みを見定める基本的な知見を修得する。 The expected goal of this course for the students is to learn fundamental knowledge about concepts, systems and institutions for appropriate usage and management of resources and environments at local level for sustainable rural development alternatives and strategies. It is expected that the students acquire capability to review and evaluate the current situation of sustainable land use management and improvement projects in developing countries. |

| Schedule and Contents |
第1回：授業計画の全体を解説し，地域資源管理の視点から地域環境管理の概念を説明する（西前）。 1st week：The whole of the course plan is overviewed. The concept of regional planning and land management is reviewed from the viewpoint of regional resource management (Saizen). 第2回：地球環境研究における国際的研究の枠組みである「Future Earth」について，その設立の背景，考え方や取り組みについて講述する（西前）。 2nd week: “Future Earth” which is the international framework for Global Environmental Research, will be described, especially, the background of its foundation, the concept. And its activities (Saizen). 第3～4回：日本における土地利用計画の理念，手法，手順について，歴史的な経緯と社会的背景を概説しながら講述する。さらには近年の新しい政策を紹介する（西前・淺野）。 3rd and 4th week: Japanese land-use planning and its philosophy, the way of execution and the procedure will be described through overviewing Japanese history and social condition. In addition, current land-use policy will be introduced (Saizen and Asano). 第5～６回：日本における農村地域の過疎問題を総括し，地域活性化の取組を具体的に例示しながら解説する（西前・淺野）。 5th and 6th week: Depopulation challenges in Japanese rural areas will be explained and some case studies of rural revitalization will be introduced (Saizen and Asano). 第7回：地域計画の策定で重要な人口予測についてコーホート分析法について実際の統計情報を分析しながら解説する（西前・淺野）。 7th week: Cohort Analysis, population forecast analysis method, will be explained through analyzing a statistical population data, which is most important factor for formulating regional planning (Saizen and Asano). 第8回：フィードバックとして指定期間に質問を受け付ける（西前）。 8th: Questions from students will be answered between designated periods as feedback（Saizen）. オンラインで実施することがあるため、KULASIS、PandA等で確認すること. Check the information on KULASIS and PandA as lessons might be held online. |

| Evaluation Methods and Policy |
レポート成績点（2回，各50点）で総合評価する。到達目標について、地球環境学舎の成績評価の基準に従って評価する。 The final course grade will be determined by evaluation of two reports (50 percent each). Achievement level is assessed by GSGES's criteria. |

地域の持続可能な発展について，内容，経緯，各分野での取り組みなどの基本を，様々な参考書および国連関係機関など関連機関のホームページなどで，学習しておくこと． It is required for the students to study in advance the objectives, history and exact projects or challenges in relevant fields, on reference books and homepages of relevant organization including UN organizations. |
