Outline and Purpose of the Course Biomass is a renewable and abundant feedstock, which has the potential to become a future alternative to fossil resources. This course is aimed at introducing the basic knowledge of biomass, providing overview of biomass processing chemistry, and illustrating biomass conversion strategies for value-added chemicals, fuels and materials.Furthermore, the evaluation and characterization methods of bio-based materials will also be introduced in this course.
Course Goals To understand the principal concepts and developments in wood chemistry and biomass conversion technology.
Schedule and Contents 1. Chemical composition and distribution of biomass
2. Cellulose: chemistry and its characterization(I)
3. Cellulose: chemistry and its characterization(II)
