Outline and Purpose of the Course In building a disaster prevention system for energy related facilities such as nuclear power plants, strengthening regional disaster prevention capability through societal education on disaster prevention is an important factor. In this lecture, we will describe on the evaluation methods of earthquake hazard, which is the foundation of the disaster prevention system construction, and discuss the relevance between the disaster prevention strategy and risk communication method against these disasters.
Course Goals Understand how seismic safety of facilities with large social impacts during disasters, such as nuclear power plants, is done properly.
Understand the importance of social decision making against earthquake risk of energy related facilities such as nuclear power plants and basic points of risk communication.
Schedule and Contents We conduct classes on the following items using projectors, writing on blackboard and handout materials.
1st: Basic knowledge on earthquake and earthquake ground motion (1)
2nd: Basic knowledge on earthquakes and earthquake ground motion (2)
3rd: Recent Damage Earthquake and Earthquake Motion (Shaking of the ground)
4th: Prediction of strong ground motion in the future large and huge earthquakes
5th: Prediction and countermeasure of ground motions during the Nankai / Tonankai earthquake
6th: Earthquake countermeasures at nuclear power plants
7th: Earthquake and risk communication
8th: Recent earthquake damage cases
9th: Seismic Provisions on Energy Related Facilities
10th: How to handle earthquake load as static external force
11th: Seismic load according to Building Standard Law in Japan
12th: Earthquake load of civil engineering and mechanical system
13th: Utilization of emergency earthquake bulletin
14th: Feedback
Evaluation Methods and Policy Based on the attendance status to the class and the evaluation of the report. When the number of attendance is 2/3 or more, the report is submitted and the grade is judged.
Course Requirements None
