| Outline and Purpose of the Course |
Psychoanalysis, Society and Culture 精神分析と社会そして文化 This course will examine the development of a social and cultural perspective in psychoanalysis. Particular attention will be paid to the following thematic questions: How are we shaped by society and culture? What can psychoanalysis and psychology learn from anthropology and the study of culture? How does the psychotherapeutic, or healing relationship, reflect the social values and cultural norms in which it takes place? How do the psychological theories and ideas we use reflect the society, culture and historical period in which they were developed? How might a western perspective on the individual person neglect the sociocultural context? How do psychoanalysis and psychology understand and address key societal issues like racial discrimination and historical trauma? What might a socially aware psychoanalysis look like? The work of the Cultural School of Psychoanalysis, developed by Harry Stack Sullivan and Erich Fromm will provide a basis for discussion and reflection. Students will develop critical learning skills in order to recognize how social systems and ideologies can shape psychological experience. Students will learn to identify how the therapeutic setting is always embedded consciously and unconsciously in social and cultural contexts that shape what is seen and heard. Students will learn to reflect on their own social, cultural and narrative development. |

| Schedule and Contents |
第１回 オリエンテーション 第２回～第１５回 精神分析、精神社会学、歴史学、人類学など、さまざまな分野の英語文献を精読する。 テキストを注意深く読むことを通して、治療実践、トラウマの歴史、現代の社会的な出来事から引き出された事例について検討する。 授業は適宜ディスカッションや質疑応答の時間を設定しながら進めていく。 受講生の積極的な参加を歓迎・奨励する。 なお、文献リストは授業開始時に提供される。 |
