Outline and Purpose of the Course In this course, students will learn the basic methods and processes for conducting empirical research in the management field.
This course will focus on three main themes: (1) social science as a science, (2) explanations and theories of social science, and (3) design, methods, and processes of social science.
Management is a part of social science, and this class will discuss the methods and processes of empirical research without distinguishing management from other social sciences in principle.
Course Goals The objective of this course is for students to design and execute their own empirical research and understand and evaluate the research of others by understanding the contents of the basic literature covered in the class. They will acquire foundational knowledge and gain the basic ability to perform excellent empirical research as academic researchers.

The course details will be determined based on the number of students, etc.; however, the planned course will be as follows: Students assigned in advance shall report on the summaries and evaluations of the documents used for discussion. When reporting, a report regimen will be prepared and distributed in class. Other students must read the literature in advance, attend lectures, and participate in discussions (for a certain number of papers or more, they must also submit comments to be used as the material for discussion in advance).
Evaluation Methods and Policy The evaluation is based on the content of the report made before the class (50%), the content of the submitted comments (20%), and contribution to the discussion (attendance and remarks; 30%). The evaluation will focus on the understanding of the papers, determining whether students have an accurate and systematic understanding of the interrelationships.
Course Requirements Basic understanding of management
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Lesson Preparation: Understanding the contents of the paper that will be covered in each class and forming opinions as well as considering discussions in class.
Review: Reflecting on the discussions on the papers covered in each class, ensuring that the understanding is accurate while gaining a systematic, organized understanding by considering how it relates to other papers studied in class.
