Instructor name NAKAMURA KIMIHITO (Graduate School of Agriculture Professor)
HAMA TAKEHIDE (Graduate School of Agriculture Associate Professor)
Outline and Purpose of the Course To solve problems related to irrigation, drainage and hydrological engineering, fundamental studies such as environmental physics, crop science, soil chemistry, hydrogeochemistry, statistics and numerical analysis methods in addition to irrigation-drainage, hydrology, soil physics are indispensable. We read appropriately choosing English documents concerning them.
The ability to understand previous studies related to research, to find new and original tasks from multiple past articles and to explain them clearly in the processes of research. Collecting and analyzing domestic and overseas materials, extracting solved problems, summarizing them and discussing in the seminar are implemented.
In addition, compiling, presenting and discussing for the results of own research are implemented.
Course Goals Relating to the diploma policies of master's course "Have the communication and presentation ability necessary for in-depth mutual understanding and have the ability to appeal for personal research advancements within the respective areas of specialization." and "Acquire the linguistic level necessary for disseminating research advancements to the rest of the world.", the attainment target is to acquire English knowledge on irrigation, drainage and hydrological environment, to summarized the results for research subjects, to create documents in Japanese or English, to present them effectively and to discuss.
Schedule and Contents The following issues are implemented.
1. Acquisition of fundamental knowledge (11)
Reading English textbooks and literatures related irrigation-drainage, hydrology, soil physics, environmental physics, crop science, soil chemistry, hydrogeochemistry, statistics and so on.
2. Assembling of previous articles and discussion (11)
Reading multiple related previous articles (Japanese and English), summarizing them and finding original problems and tasks. Organizing and preparing documents, presenting and discussing.
3. Presentation and discussion of own research (8)
Reporting on the status of research processes. It is also necessary to participate actively in discussions with other research subjects.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation is based on the engaging attitude, the content of the presentation and report.
Refer to current year's 'Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements It is necessary to have some knowledge about irrigation and drainage, soil physics, hydrology and atmospheric environment.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Progressing against the theme in charge, preparing reports and presentations while checking by a teacher.
After the presentation, making improvements based on the discussion.
