Outline and Purpose of the Course The current status and challenges of forest resources based on the development of wood materials, viewpoints of new material development, and the reliable wooden materials and production technology are lectured referring to recent trends of development research and future prospects. This course aims to learn and deepen understanding in the latest knowledge in the field of wood composite.
Course Goals For developing wood materials, acquisition of knowledge on sustainable production and utilization based on the current state of materials, and acquisition of knowledge on the current state of various woody materials produced from them, and fostering the ability to investigate new development.
Schedule and Contents Lectures are in plan on the following subjects.
1. Current status and challenges of forest resources (4 time)
From the viewpoint of development of wood-based materials, the current state and challenges of forest resources are discussed.
2. Material development utilizing the characteristics of wood (3 times)
Development of board using plant fiber
Development of binderless board
Development of wood plastic composite (WPC)
3. Adhesion technology in wood-based materials (4 times)
Lecture on adhesion theory, rheology, surface science and new adhesives.
5. Degradation and durability of wood-based materials (3 times)
Discussion on deterioration, aging, weathering and durability of wood and wood-based materials.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Grading criteria and achievement are based on [Grading Criteria and Achievement] described in the “Guide to Degree Program, Graduate School of Agriculture”.
Course Requirements (Prerequisites)
There are no specific prerequisites for this course. However, prior knowledge of physics and chemistry of timbers and on processing and utilization of woody material is preferable.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students are required to review on the general knowledge of physics and chemistry of wood and on processing and utilization of wood-based material before taking this course.
