Outline and Purpose of the Course In this class, the students discuss the latest scientific understanding of forest ecosystems and the environment in the tropics, and also how to apply such knowledge to the conservation of tropical forest biodiversity and natural resources at the global level.
Course Goals The goal is to be able to comprehend English primary literature on environmental issues and forest conservation in tropical forest regions.
Schedule and Contents Module 1 (2 meetings): Tropical forest climate and climate change impacts
Module 2 (2 meetings): History and current situations of tropical forest resources and land use
Module 3 (3 meetings): Tropical forest management, tree plantation, and REDD+

Feedback week will follow the last class meeting via e-mail.
Evaluation Methods and Policy The grade will be determined in an integrative manner on the basis of attendance, active participation, and assignments. Refer to current year's 'Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels in grade evaluation.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) All participants must have read the assigned readings before each class meeting.
