Instructor name INOUE YOSHIHARU (Graduate School of Agriculture Professor)
Outline and Purpose of the Course The objective of this course is to let students master the experimental techniques and analytical methods in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, and structural biology through the completion of respective projects concerning microorganisms.
Course Goals Combining the results of different experiments organically, and setting up the subsequent experiments. Aiming at the accomplishment of his/her research project.
Schedule and Contents 1. Elucidation of the mechanism of gene expression in yeast
This project aims to elucidate the mechanism of gene expression system concerning stress response in yeast. This project also aims to analyze the regulatory mechanism of transcription factors involved in the response against environmental stress as well as nutritional conditions.

2. Elucidation of molecular mechanism of metabolic stress response
This project aims to elucidate the mechanism of stress response against several stress stimuli raised from intracellular metabolism or alteration of extracellular environment by the method of molecular genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology using yeast as a model. In addition, this project aims to verify the generality of the molecular mechanism clarified using yeast.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Grades will be based on the attitude to experiments.
Refer to the latest 'Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements Students are required to prepare and review the basic understanding of biochemistry, molecular biology, and microbiology in undergraduate level.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Setting up detailed experimental plans.Considering the results comprehensively with comparing the data of published papers.
