Outline and Purpose of the Course | Experimental course for the isolation and utilization of cellulose nanofibers and chitin nanofibers, the physical properties of wood and molecular design of polymers having high functionality. | ||

Each student sets up one research topic from the following fileds. # Isolation and characterization of cellulose nanofibers and chitin nanofibers from various bio resources # Chemical and physical modification of cellulose nanofibers # Production of cellulose nanofibers-based materials and evaluation of their paerformances # The physical properties of wood under stable and unstable conditions # Temperature and humidity environment of wooden buildings # Molecular design of polymers having high functionality |

Evaluation Methods and Policy | Quality of experimental design, execution of experiments, results obtained, their interpretation and explanation will be considered in student evaluation. | ||
Course Requirements | None (Basic knowledges on wood anatomy, wood chemistry, wood physics, polymer science and bio-based materials are useful to take the class). | ||
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) | Studying the use of fundamental equipments for the measurement of physical and mechanical properties of materials. |
