Seminar on Innovative Humano-habitability2

Numbering Code G-AGR02 6BB55 SJ80 Year/Term 2022 ・ Year-round
Number of Credits 4 Course Type Seminar
Target Year Target Student
Language Japanese Day/Period Mon.1・2・3
Instructor name OHMURA WAKAKO (Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere Professor)
HATA TOSHIMITSU (Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere Senior Lecturer)
Outline and Purpose of the Course The objest of the seminar is to make critical discuss on the recent research results in terms of mechanism and management of deterioration of wood and wood-based materials. In addition, new energy options and environmental technologies using wood degteriorating organisms together with development of production technologies of useful chemaicals and fuel-cell cathode from wood-based materials are argued.
Course Goals # Learning the up-dated knowledges on deterioratino of wood and wood-based materials, heat treatment of wood-biomass and advanced carbon materials, and discussing the future perspectives.
# Learning the state-of-art non-destructive survey methods, and applying them to the maintenance of wooden buildings.
Schedule and Contents The target of the seminar is to share the recent developmant of the following research topics by introducing the important research articles. All academic staffs are in charge of the seminar.

# Mechanism of deterioration of wood and wood-based materials

# Termite management with environmentally-acceptable strategies

# Development of novel wood preservatives

# Inspection of deterioration of wood and wood-based materials in houses

# Construction of reliable protocol for diagonosis of wooden houses

# Production of highly-functional carbon materials from wood by thermal conversion

# Development of fuel-cerll cathode materials from wood carbon materials

# New energy options and environmental technologies with wood deteriopreating organisms
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation is made by a mark given for class participation. Refer to 'Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements There is no special requirement for registration. But,basic knowledges on biochemistry, microbiology, insect ecology, insect physiology, wood chemistry, wood physics and wood anatomy are useful to take the class.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) # The resume will be delivered 2-days before the seminar, so the students are requested to check the points to be discussed before the seminar.
# Detailed survey on the specific items, such as an individual species of wood-attacking organisms, is highly recommended.
