Outline and Purpose of the Course In this seminar, students will read recent papers related to the origin and evolution of cultivated plants. Diverse topics related to evolution of plants and animals are also welcomed. To enhance their scientific knowledge and presentation skill, they will introduce the contents of papers and make free discussions .
Course Goals This course provides students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the evolution of cultivated plants and gain an understanding of relevant research techniques.
Schedule and Contents  Each student will select and read recently published original research papers, and introduce them to the class. Students will also explore new directions of research on the evolution of cultivated plants through discussions. In addition, students will gain experience in presenting the results of their own research projects. Total: 30 sessions
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on the student’s commitment to and achievements in projects.
Course Requirements Background knowledge: evolution of cultivated plants; plant genetic resources, evolutionary biology, genetics, plant breeding.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Following each seminar, students are expected to review points they had difficulty understanding.
