Outline and Purpose of the Course Students attending this lecture are required to have a basic knowledge of intermediate microeconomics and econometrics. The main objective of this subject is to cultivate students' comprehensive abilities to examine the economic and social problems regarding food, agriculture, and the environment. The issues addressed in the lecture are shown specifically in the class plan below. With the help of the fundamental theory of microeconomics and econometrics, students are able to learn the basic concepts and analytical methods that are indispensable for conducting empirical studies and receiving a master's degree in the filed of natural resource economics.
Course Goals Based on intermediate-level microeconomics and econometrics, students develop a thorough understanding of food, agricultural, and environmental problems in the world.
Schedule and Contents The contents of the lecture are as follows:

(1) Technologies of food production
Production function analysis, profit and cost functions, comparative statistics.

(2) International trade theory
Comparative advantage, economic growth and comparative disadvantage in agriculture

(3) Analysis of factor markets
Land and labor markets

(4) Agriculture and the national economies
technological progress, and interregional difference in productivity.

(5) Exam and feedback
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluate learning results with a final exam. Refer to current year's 'Guide to Degree Program' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements Knowledge of mathematical economics and econometrics is essential.
