Outline and Purpose of the Course To understand the recent progress in organic chemistry in life science, the students select important papers with own interests from the area and explain them along with own opinions. The attendee including teaching staffs discuss the presentation.
Course Goals Students will understand the research trends in the field of organic chemistry for life sciences, and examine the directions of their research from various perspectives.
Schedule and Contents Students will select recently published academic papers that discuss the structural analysis, synthesis, and molecular-level action mechanisms of bioactive compounds?defined in a broader sense to include foodstuff?from the perspective of organic chemistry, and explain the content of the papers as well as their own views. The class will discuss the materials presented while the instructor will provide supplementary explanations as well as a summary to help students gain an overall understanding of the subject matter. Students will also present their own research results in the field of organic chemistry for life sciences, discuss relevant issues, and reexamine the future direction of their research.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Grading is based on an overall assessment of attendance, presentations, and attitude. Refer to '2016 Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements Basic knowledge of organic chemistry.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Have a good grasp of the research trends in organic chemistry for life sciences. In particular, be sure to go through important research papers.
