Outline and Purpose of the Course Seminar based on research presentations by graduate students about:(1) developments of farm management and agricultural technique as well as history of agricultural policy, farmers movements and rural society of Japan and Eastern Asia in modern age, (2)agricultural and ecological history of Europe in 20th century.
Course Goals ?Students will complete a Master’s thesis.
?Students will gain the basic techniques and skills required to write a research paper on the topic of their choice, including: researching and evaluating previously published studies; selecting a research topic; collecting and researching relevant historical documents and literature; interpreting historical documents and literature; and completing a research paper.
?Students will not only focus on their own research presentations but also gain experience in listening to and accurately understanding reports by other students, and be able to provide positive feedback and constructive criticisms, as well as useful advice.
Schedule and Contents At the beginning of both semesters, all students will report on their research progress and schedule their presentations, to be given once every semester as a general rule.
Different arrangements will be made for those students who are writing their Master’s thesis (students in their second year of the Master’s program).
(First semester)
Session 1: Report on research progress by all students and discussion to set a presentation schedule based on the report.

Course Requirements Understand the content of the seminar described above.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Key areas of writing a Master’s thesis and discussions. Students are expected to always put their focus on their Master’s thesis in their daily studies, regardless of whether they are reviewing or previewing the course materials. They must work on it consistently, and use this seminar as an opportunity to present what they have achieved.
