Outline and Purpose of the Course Various kinds of issues on measures for conserving the forested watershed environment and for managing the forest resources are reviewed in this seminar. Research planning, data analysis and manuscript preparation are guided to the graduate students.
Course Goals  By completing this course students will:
Develop the reading comprehension skills needed to understand the articles related to their research field and learn the methods and steps involved in writing a research paper; Understand the methods of obtaining and analyzing data, and develop the ability to independently prepare papers for publication; Learn about research ethics, including the basic approaches and appropriate attitude for conducting research.
Schedule and Contents (1) Guidance on the research integrity (1 turns)
Research ethics will be introduced for fair implementation of the research plan.

(2) Outlines of researches on the forest information sciences (3 turns)
Laboratory staffs present their own research results as examples to learn the scientific research procedures.

(3) Presentation of research activities (3 to 4 turns)
Research results obtained in the previous year are presented and discussed for improving research plan.

(4) Reviews of recent papers relating to forest sciences (4 turns)
Scientific articles on the research theme are reviewed.

(5) Reports on the research plan (3 to 4 turns)
Verify the appropriateness of the research plans, especially about the analyzing method and the framework of the research.
Evaluation Methods and Policy  Evaluation will be based on an overall assessment of criteria such as seminar presentations and participation and comments during class discussions.

Course Requirements  Basic knowledge related to forest resources, the public roles of forests, , biogeochemistry, and ecology is desirable.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review)  When preparing to introduce selected research papers, students should also strive to review other studies related to the research papers. In particular, students are encouraged to go through the original texts of important referenced articles.
