Outline and Purpose of the Course The developments of high performance nanocomposites based on cellulose nanofibers and chitin nanofibers, the physical properties of wood and temperature and humidity environment of wooden buildings, and the molecular design of polymers having high functionality are discussed.
Course Goals Learning the state-of-art cellulose nano materials.
Schedule and Contents The following topics are lectured. Each topic consists of 3-5 classes (weeks).

# Isolation and characterization of cellulose nanofibers and chitin nanofibers from various bio resources

# Chemical and physical modification of cellulose nanofibers

# Production of cellulose nanofibers-based materials and evaluation of their performances

# The physical properties of wood and wood-based materials under stable and unstable conditions

# Temperature and humidity environment of wooden buildings

# Molecular design of polymers having high functionality
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation is made by a mark given for class participation and report.
Course Requirements None (Basic knowledges on wood anatomy, wood chemistry, wood physics, polymer science and bio-based materials are useful to take the class).
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Studying previous research wark on cellulose nanomaterials.
