Outline and Purpose of the Course The objectives of this seminar course is to give lectures and read academic textbooks in turn on comparative institutional analysis or new institutional economics related to agricultural development.
Course Goals This course will provide students an opportunity to:
Master the basics of new institutional economics; and Learn how to apply the concepts to explain economic problems, instead of simply understanding them. Students will study new institutional economic theories in detail once they master the overall basic principles.
Schedule and Contents 4) Game theory
 Strategic games, extensive-form games, Nash equilibrium, repeated games

5) Imperfect competition
 Monopoly, Cournot games, Stackelberg games, Bertrand games

6) Information economics
 Risk sharing, adverse selection, moral hazard, hold-up problem, auction

7) Externality and public goods
The Coase theorem, Pigovian tax, free rider problem, Samuelson condition
Evaluation Methods and Policy Grading will be based on an overall assessment of criteria such as attendance, the content of presentation, and understanding of basic theories.
Course Requirements Basic knowledge of economics
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students are encouraged to work on exercises on the topics studied to enhance their level of understanding.
