| Outline and Purpose of the Course | This course provides lectures on the environmental and resource economics, with particular emphasis on theoretical models of environmental resources. Those include land and water, fishery, forestry, and exhaustible resources. Also the policy on resource management issues will be discussed. | |||
| Course Goals | The goal of this course is to understand the theory and practical issues of resource management. Students will acquire understandings for issues such as agricultural development and environment, poverty and environment, use of common-pool resources and organization, resilience of social-ecological systems. | |||
| Schedule and Contents |
Week 1: Orientation, Introduction to resource and environmental economics and regional management of environmental resources Week 2-4: Forestry resources (Economic model of forestry is discussed with its concepts and application.) Week 5-7: Exhaustible resources (Basic principle of dynamic resource allocation of exhaustible resources such as mineral resources is discussed.) Week 8-10: International agricultural development and resources (Discussion of relevant research papers) Week 11-14: Natural resource management and development (Case study of resource management in various areas will be discussed.) < Week 15: Feed back |

| Evaluation Methods and Policy |
Evaluation is made by home work (40%: 10% x 4 times) and final exam (60%). Evaluation method and achievement is based on the Student Guide. |

| Course Requirements |
Students should have basic knowledge of intermediate microeconomics, environmental economics and calculus. |

| Study outside of Class (preparation and review) | Students are requested to read the assignment in advance. Students are requested to actively participate in the class and submit home works. Students whose microeconomics preparation is not enough, we will suggest appropriate textbook for self-study. | |||
