Outline and Purpose of the Course Experimental course for the isolation and utilization of cellulose nanofibers and chitin nanofibers, the physical properties of wood and molecular design of polymers having high functionality.
Course Goals Selecting the research topic, and constructing the experimental set-up.
Learing the skills for experimental devices/apparatuses.
Analyzing the first year's results.
Schedule and Contents Each student sets up one research topic from the following fileds.

# Isolation and characterization of cellulose nanofibers and chitin nanofibers from various bio resources

# Chemical and physical modification of cellulose nanofibers

# Production of cellulose nanofibers-based materials and evaluation of their paerformances

# The physical properties of wood under stable and unstable conditions

# Temperature and humidity environment of wooden buildings

# Molecular design of polymers having high functionality
Evaluation Methods and Policy Quality of experimental design, execution of experiments, results obtained, their interpretation and explanation will be considered in student evaluation.
Course Requirements None (Basic knowledges on wood anatomy, wood chemistry, wood physics, polymer science and bio-based materials are useful to take the class).
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Studying how to use fundamental equipments for experiments.
