Outline and Purpose of the Course Master course students improve the skills necessary to conduct researches on the subjects of Insect Ecology, Evolutionary Ecology and/or Applied Entomology under the instruction of advisors. Students will learn insect ecology from an evolutionary perspective focusing on factors influencing the diversity, distribution, and abundance of insects, and also learn the role of insects as model systems in the development of general ecological and evolutionary principles.
Course Goals Students improve skills in writing, oral presentation and research so as to be able to give a talk at scientific meeting.
Schedule and Contents The course covers the following fields:
Evolutionary ecology with special emphasis on reproductive systems
Behavioral ecology
Sociobiology of termites and ants
Interspecies interaction including prey-predator, host-parasite/symbionts and reproductive interfereance
Applied entomology
Ecological genetics
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on attendance and activities inclusing presentation, discussion and communication.
Course Requirements Seminar in Insect Ecology is a major’s level seminar for students with a strong background in Evolutionary Ecology and Entomology.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Read relevant scientific papers.
