Outline and Purpose of the Course Various kinds of issues on measures for conserving the forested watershed environment and for managing the forest resources are reviewed in this seminar. Research planning, data analysis and manuscript preparation are guided to the graduate students.
Course Goals  By completing this course students will:
Develop the reading comprehension skills needed to understand the articles related to their research field and learn the methods and steps involved in writing a research paper; Understand the methods of obtaining and analyzing data, and develop the ability to independently prepare papers for publication; Learn about research ethics, including the basic approaches and appropriate attitude for conducting research. Select the research papers to be referenced in the introduction of their Master's thesis, and clearly present the background and current state of research.
Schedule and Contents (1) Reviews of recent papers relating to forest sciences (4 to 5 turns)
Scientific articles on the research theme are reviewed.

(2) Report on research activities (6 to 7 turns)
Research results obtained are presented and discussed for improving research plan.

(3) Presentation of the research (4 to 5 turns)
Preparing the research paper for the Master's thesis and papers for presentation at scientific meetings.
Evaluation Methods and Policy  Evaluation will be based on an overall assessment of criteria such as seminar presentations and participation and comments during class discussions.

Course Requirements  Students are expected to have acquired basic knowledge related to forest resources, the public role of forests, biogeochemistry, and ecology in Seminar in Forest Information 1. Students are also expected to have developed a clear objective and methods for their Master's thesis.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review)  When preparing to introduce selected research papers, students should also strive to review other studies related to the research papers. In particular, students are encouraged to go through the original texts of important referenced articles.
