Outline and Purpose of the Course In this seminar, we intensively read academic articles published in international economic journals. The topics in this seminar are closely associated with those addressed in the course of Agricultural and Environmental Policy 1A and 1B. The main objective of this seminar is to develop a through understanding of the central problems of food production and the environmental issues in the world.
Course Goals Based on intermediate-level microeconomics and econometrics, students develop a thorough understanding of food, agricultural, and environmental problems in the world.
Schedule and Contents The topics addressed in this seminar are as follows:
(1) Common property resources
(2) Contract farming and farm sector integration
(3) Economic analyses of direct payment schemes in agriculture
(4) Econometric analyses of the structural problems in agriculture and land use
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluate learning results with a final exam. Refer to current year's 'Guide to Degree Program' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements Knowledge of mathematical economics and econometrics is fundamentally essential.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Read carefully articles selected in advance.
