Instructor name YAZAKI KAZUFUMI (Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere Professor)
SUGIYAMA AKIFUMI (Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere Associate Professor)
MUNAKATA RYOSUKE (Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere Assistant Professor)
Outline and Purpose of the Course By reading international publications on plant molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, and plant physiology, the contents are summarized in a resume, and presented by use of MS PowerPont as a seminar. Upon discusision on the introduced research works, logical thinking and scientific points are learned. Research papers on microorganisms and animals are also covered in terms of common life science works.
Schedule and Contents The topics of seminar are:

Regulation of gene expression and their physiological functions in plants.

Heterogolous expression of foreign genes and plant biotecchnology.

Plant sciences contributing to maintain environment, such as metal transport, plant-microbe interactions, symbiosis, etc.

Other recent tipics in biology, which are not restricted to plants but cover various organisms.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Based on the reading comprehension, ability to summarize scientific data, presentation skill, and quality of discussion.
Course Requirements Basic knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and natural product chemistry.
