Outline and Purpose of the Course Through reference survey and presentation of experimental topics, students will learn experimental planning,
conducting procedure and contribution to the related scientific societies. Basic scientific field of the course is
ecology, genetics and pest management of spider mites and their natural enemies.
Course Goals After completion of this course, students will learn how to conduct and complete research work and how to make a presentation to others.
Schedule and Contents 1. Fundamental research in spider mites and their natural enemies: advanced course (about 8 times)
Classification, population dynamics, evolutionary process and biotechnological methods will be introduced
and discussed.
2. Applied research in management (especially IPM) of spider mite population: advanced course (about 7 times)
Applied aspects of mite control and pesticide resistance will be introduced and discussed.
3. Tri-topics levels interactions of organisms: advanced course (about 5 times)
Host plant - spider mite - natural enemy interactions will be presented and discussed.
4. Research topic presentations: advanced course (about 8 times)
Students will present current advancement of their research topics and discussion will be opened.


Feedback: Occasionally feedback time of contents will be inserted during the semesters.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Performance in the course and attainment of contents will be used for evaluation.

Course Requirements It is advisable for students to take Seminar in Research in Ecological Information 2 in addition to this course.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) To fully understand the contents of the class and prepare own duty in the class, students should take much time to prepare beforehand and review class contents after each class.
