Outline and Purpose of the Course This course is divided into two parts: in the first semester, lectures and discussions on methodologies of qualitative social research and in the second, reviews and discussions about contemporary English-language works on sociology of food and agriculture.
Course Goals Understand the global trends and challenges in sociological and ethical studies related to food and agriculture.
Schedule and Contents Literature related to the most current Western studies on the following topics will be introduced, explained and discussed in a seminar format.
The first half of the course will introduce studies related to food and agricultural ethics while the second half will introduce studies on agricultural and rural changes.

?Alternative Food Networks
?Practical studies related to the ethics of food consumption
?Sociological analysis of food systems
?Problems of rurality in the farming villages of developed nations
?Formation of new communities in farming villages
?Rural policies and changes in farming villages
?Ethical problems related to the development of agricultural technologies
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on class performance including contribution to presentations and discussions.
