Outline and Purpose of the Course This subject aims at studying the ecological and social dynamics of Southeast Asia and issues embedded in them including human health, human activity and natural environment and natural resources management.
The knowledge and ideas provided in this subject would be the foundation to think over about the human security development of Southeast Asia.
Course Goals To acquire basic knowledge on geography, society, and culture of Southeast Asia, and contemporary issues in the region.
Schedule and Contents One or two lectures will be given on each of the following topics:
1. Introduction to Southeast Asian Studies
2. The natural environment and development path of Southeast Asia
3. The society and culture of Southeast Asia
4. Economic development, poverty, and economic disparities
5. Natural resource management and environmental degradation
6. Conflict, governance, and peace-keeping
7. Contemporary human security issues in Southeast Asia
8. Discussion and Feedback

The course will open on October 5(Tue), 6(Wed), 7(Thu), and 8(Fri), the beginning of second semester. Beware of announcements through KULASIS and PandA.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Overall judgment based on attendance, discussion in the classroom and a report. Refer to current year's 'Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) No preparation is required.
Students must submit a final report assigned during the class.
