Outline and Purpose of the Course Current status of fisheries industry in our country, especially in Tottori prefecture, will be lectured based on actual examples and various statistical data. By seriously considering the future of fisheries industry, which is heavily depending on natural environment, students are expected to learn better relationship between human activity and nature.
Course Goals By completing this course, students will develop the skills to:
Analyze statistical data on fisheries and aquaculture reported by municipalities or government, and explain the essence to others.
Plan and manage business administration or policy based on adequate understanding of current status.
Those skills are applicable not only fisheries industry but also various aspects in future.
Schedule and Contents 1. Guidance and current status of fisheries industry in our country
2. Sustainable utilization of marine resources I: management of resources
3. Sustainable utilization of marine resources II: restoration by stock enhancement
4. Resource management of internationally-migrating resources: bluefin tuna
5. Issues of national border on fisheries industry: Japan as maritime nation
6. Examples of promotion measures for fisheries industry
7. System of fishery right: legal structure for sustainable utilization of common ownership resources
8. Actual situation and subject of costal fishery in Tottori city
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on attendance (30%) and report (70%). Refer to current year's 'Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students are required to submit reports on an assigned topic.
