Outline and Purpose of the Course In this lecture, fundamental undestanding of biochemistry will be confirmed and molecuar cell biology will be further deeply reconsidered. Omics analysis including genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics will be comprehended. Based on these topics, advanced life and physiological phenomena will be studied.
Course Goals Understanding of both learning and research.
Schedule and Contents 1. Prof. Noriyuki Kioka and Asst.Yasuhisa Kimura - Mammalian cells are surrounded by various extracellular matrices and growth factors in the body. To live, cells need to respond these extracellular microenvironments and regulate their behaviors including proliferation, differentiation, and migration. The aim of this course is to understand these cellular events biochemically and cellular biologically.
2. Prof. Takashi Watanabe, Asst. Prof. Takahito Watanabe, Asst. Prof. Hiroshi Nishimura - One of the primary focuses of this course is to gain understanding of the structure and functions of carbohydrates, lipids and enzymes related to biodegradation of plant tissues. Specifically, we will examine the reactions that constitute these pathways and discuss how the plant cell walls are degraded by enzymes and metabolites produced by microorganisms. We will introduce basic biochemistry of carbohydrates, lipids and enzymes such as hydrolases and peroxidases throughout the lecture on the metabolism of plant cell walls. Analysis of biomolecules by NMR is also introduced.
3. Prof. Mitsuyoshi Ueda (Assoc.Kouichi Kuroda and Assit. Wataru Aoki)- For deeply understanding cell biological phenomena, comprehensive analysis of all biomolecules is necessary. Omics analysis including genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics should be studied, and its applications will be explained.
Evaluation Methods and Policy In the lectures, "Reports", small examinations, will be taken, and their evaluations will be carried out.
Refer to current year's 'Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements Fundamental biochemistry studied in the bachelor course should be confirmed.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Before lecture, pre-study and post-study should be carried out.
