Outline and Purpose of the Course Numerical methods, e.g., finite element method etc., are reviewed in detail from the viewpoint of practical design of soil structures as agricultural facilities. Knowledge obtained through undergraduate courses is advanced. Maintenance and recovery of function for agricultural facilities are also described by referring new diagnosis technologies including inverse analyses.
Schedule and Contents About 4 lectures will be given on each of the three topics below:

1. The basics of continuum mechanics (movement of a continuous body, the law of conservation of mass, the law of conservation of momentum)
2. Introduction of solid-state analysis (with a focus on elastic-plastic problems)
3. Soil erosion
4. Introduction of fluid analysis (with a focus on incompressible flow)
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on reports and the final examination.
Course Requirements Knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, and classical mechanics is required.
