Outline and Purpose of the Course This course chooses one research topic relevant to genetics. It aims to introduce the historical advance of this research topic to understand conceptual and empirical changes in the research fields. Students are to read classical and modern papers related to the research topic. Every week, a student reads a paper chosen from a list of papers provided and presents the summary of the paper in the class, and to build the foundation to explore the future research directions.
Course Goals Students understand the study's historical context to enhance their understanding of the current studies in the field.
Students develop the ability to summarize the contents of papers and to evaluate them objectively.
Schedule and Contents Week 1-2: Review articles
Week 3-7: Classical papers
Week 8-14: Modern papers
Week 15: Summary
We discuss the papers that we have read from Week 1 to Week 14 and pick up unsolved problems regarding the research topic.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on attendance and the content of presentation.Refer to '2017 Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements Completion of Genetics II in the undergraduate department, or knowledge of genetics and molecular biology.
