Outline and Purpose of the Course This course addresses current topics in biochemistry of aquatic life. To hone their scientific sense, students will read recent papers, present the contents of the papers and discuss each other.
Course Goals Develop the ability to conduct research by understanding recent research trends and identifying issues to be resolved.
Schedule and Contents About 3-4 weeks of classes are planned for each of the topics listed below. Students will introduce and present recently published papers and discuss them with class.

Sessions 1 to 5: Characteristics of bioregulatory components of marine lipids
The characteristics of bioregulatory components of marine lipids, such as their effects on the cranial nervous system, will be explained.

Sessions 6 to 10: Mechanisms of bioregulatory components derived from marine organisms
The effects of bioregulatory components derived from marine organisms on the cell will be discussed from the perspectives of cellular chemistry and molecular biology.

Sessions 11 to 15: Characteristics of antioxidative, antimutagenic substances
The chemical structures and reactions of inhibitors of free radicals, such as superoxides, singlet oxygen, and hydroxyl radicals, will be discussed.                                                                     
Evaluation Methods and Policy Grading will be based on an overall assessment of attendance and commitment to presentations and class discussions.
Course Requirements None
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students are expected to research the topics to be discussed and be prepared to give a brief explanation. Students are also encouraged to enhance their understanding of the topics by finding answers to questions from class discussions.
