Outline and Purpose of the Course Current advances regarding physiological bases on flower bud initiation, fruit development, and fruit maturation are outlined in relation to fruit crop productions. Current perspectives in fruit tree breeding are also considered in this course.
Course Goals Gain an in-depth understanding of the most current topics and research in pomology.
Schedule and Contents Flower bud differentiation in fruit trees (5 sessions)
 These sessions will explain factors that influence the process of flower bud formation in a fruit tree. We will also examine factors that regulate the life cycle of a fruit tree.


Growth of a fruit tree and plant hormones (5 sessions)
 Using citrus fruits as an example, these sessions will examine the interactions between nutritional conditions and plant hormones, which influence the growth cycle of a fruit tree.


Prospects for technological innovations in fruit tree breeding (5 sessions)
 The prospects for practical applications of new breeding technologies for fruit trees will be examined.


This course will be delivered in a seminar format based on materials and literature related to the topics described above.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Grading will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of attendance, presentations, and reports.
Course Requirements Basic knowledge of pomology is desirable.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students are required to preview materials to be used in class and review them after class.
