| Outline and Purpose of the Course | The lecture instructs disciplines dealing with ecological information in the agro-ecosystems. In this class, we focus the utilization of ecological information in the agricultural pest management. Especially, to establish biological control methods for arthropod pests such as insects and mites, approaches based on behavioral ecology, population ecology and population genetics will be addressed. | |||
| Course Goals | Students will understand biological impacts by ambient stresses and adaptation of organisms under natural conditions and significance of practical use of environmental factors using solar radiation as an example. | |||
| Schedule and Contents |
1. Agro-ecosystems and surroundings 2. Various methods to control agricultural pest arthropods 3. Characteristics of natural enemies used for biological control 4. Use of ecological information in biological control 5. Application of ecological information and sustainability in agriculture In the class, all students are requested to contribute and participate positively into the discussion with certain duties such as presentation and performance. |

| Evaluation Methods and Policy | Depending on depth of understandings of lecture contents and active participation in the class, an overall evaluation will be decided with aids such as written examination (70%) and class attendance and participation (30%). | |||
| Course Requirements | Knowledge on ecology, insect, mite and vertebrate sciences, and environmental issues may help understandings of lectures. However, they are not necessarily the requisites. | |||
