Outline and Purpose of the Course Focusing on the mysterious early life history of teleosts, research achievements will be lectured on taxonomy, development of body structure, and diversity of ecology. In addition, the contribution of these achievements to the estimation and management of fishery resources, as well as improvement of aquaculture and stock enhancement, will be introduced. Let’s start thinking together about future subjects and perspectives on studies for early life history of teleosts.
Course Goals 1. Students deeply understand the diversed ecology and development of body structure of various teleosts living in aquatic ecosystem.
2. In addition, deep understanding is acquired how the larval fish study contributes to industries.
Schedule and Contents 1. Introduction: What is larval fish study
2. Diversity and taxonomy of larval fish
3. Morphology and function of larval fish
4. Outline of early life history of teleosts
5. Studies on early life history and its application to fisheries sciences
6. Case study 1, flatfishes
7. Case study 2, AYU (Plecoglossus altivelis)
8. Case study 3, deep sea fishes
Evaluation Methods and Policy Attendance (30%) and reports (30%).
