Outline and Purpose of the Course Study many aspects of forest sciences such as forest ecology, from basics to cutting edges.
Course Goals Students should be able to understand journal articles on forest sciences. This may need background knowledge on forest sciences.
Schedule and Contents 4-5 weeks of classes are planned for each of the topics covered in this course, including the following:

1. basics on forest sciences: to understand multiple aspects of forest ecosystem services, several disciplines such as forest ecology will be taught.
2. forest sciences and interdisciplinary studies: multi-dimensional functions of forests will be presented in an interdisciplinary mannar, including evolutionary biology and humanities.
3. acquire skills needed for writing master thesis: usage of various databases, conducting data and statistical analyses using R and creating impressive figures and tables.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Reports and attendance. Refer to '2017 Guide to Degree Programs' for attainment levels of evaluation.
Course Requirements None.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Review class material regularly. Questions concerning previous lectures may be asked to students.
