Outline and Purpose of the Course The contribution of animal science to livestock production is meager. This title aims to match ruminant production systems with available resources especially in tropics, subtropics and semi-arid areas.
Course Goals Understand the basic concepts related to livestock and feedstock production.
Schedule and Contents About 3 lectures and seminars are planned for each of the following topics: 1. Grassland and livestock production in various climate zones; 2. Functions of rumen and use of nutrients; 3. Use and quality improvement of coarse feed; 4. Supplementary feed and additives and their effects; 5. Relationship between livestock rearing management and their growth, fattening, reproduction, lactation, and calf production.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on attendance and commitment to projects.
Course Requirements Basic understanding of feedstock science and nutritional science is desirable.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Preview distributed materials in advance.
