Outline and Purpose of the Course Oceanic life has adapted itself to the specific environment different from land. For this adaptation, various bio-active substance are incorporated into or biosynthesized in their bodies. This course focuses on studies of utilization of marine bio-products for human health.
Schedule and Contents Characteristics and utilization of marine organisms (3-4 sessions)
The sessions will introduce students to the special biological characteristics of marine organisms, such as freezing resistance, UV resistance, bacterial resistance, adhesiveness, and the ability to produce attractants, and examine their possible applications.

Utilization of marine biological resources (3-4 sessions)
The sessions will outline the applications of primary marine biological resources to not only food, but also feedstock, drugs, industrial products, and cosmetics.

Utilization of marine biological resources and environmental problems (3-4 sessions)
The sessions will describe various issues associated with the use of marine biological resources, such as waste materials, by-products, and zero emission, and engage students in the discussion of how to utilize marine resources more effectively while addressing environmental concerns.


Scientific analyses of traditional seafood (3-4 sessions)
The sessions will outline the current state of the production of traditional seafood to explore the possibility of envisioning new technology development, and examine and analyze how ancient wisdom is incorporated into modern production technologies from the perspective of advanced science.
Evaluation Methods and Policy  Evaluation will be based on reports and attendance.
