Outline and Purpose of the Course Plant pathology is a multidisciplinary field. The overall objective of this course is to learn diverse backgrounds of Plant Pathology and Plant Virology, including principle of methods used for research. Students also learn the basic concept of scientific papers; "what is a scientific paper", and "how to write a scientific paper". In addition, students are expected to present the review of their research in English using Power Point .
Schedule and Contents The first several classes will describe what a scientific paper is and explain how to write one. In later classes, students will give a presentation in English on the research they are currently working on using PowerPoint slides. After completing the presentation in about 30 minutes, the presenter will hold a Q&A session with the rest of the class in English. In the remaining classes, we will read technical books and research papers in a variety of academic fields related to plant pathology and virology, with a focus on viral agents and host agents related to translation, RNA replication, regulation of gene expression, and suppression and avoidance of resistance. We will discuss various issues that serve as the foundation of virology and plant pathology.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on attendance and reports.
Course Requirements Academic performance expected of a student with an undergraduate degree or equivalent.
